Beginning in the 1880s, weavers mostly used Twill to style their weaving of saddle blankets. This blanket like many more was used to give a little more style and fashionable look to put on top of the under saddle blanket.
The artist of this piece chose to do a two sided pattern with a positive and a negative side. The gold coloring is from rabbit brush.
